local grassroot movement, kyodo, tokyo, japan // vote motivation campaign for the 2016 election

in japan 2016 the electorate as the minimum voting age has been lowered from 20 to 18. not many young japanese vote. to remind japanese citizens to realize that policies affecting their own futures will be determined by the outcome of the elections, specially the young, together with hidenori kondo, so+ba started a local grassroot movement with shopkeepers and neighbours.
the visual we created for this campaign consists of a red circle, symbolizing the total of all voters. the lack of the circle stands for the non-voters, which mainly consist of young japanese.
this campaign was spread through social media. logos and posters were available as shareware for everyone. they could be printed out in every convenience store with the corresponding payment code.
a red circle, as seen on the japanese national flag. a red circle with a missing circular segment reminding of packman, a game invented in japan.
with a simple visual language, the campaign has thrown waves and attention over our quarter and even into shibuya. the project is ongoing.
